This weekend is shaping up to be a bit of a damp one; however, don't let the weather stop you from making some headway in the garden! So don your gumboots and grab an umbrella because there is always something to be done!
1. Buy Your Bulbs
These past couple of weeks we have received a huge amount of bulk and bagged spring bulbs like tulips, daffodils, and crocuses. We have standard varieties like Tete-a-Tete daffodils and Leen van der Mark tulips in bulk, but also unique and striking varieties like the yellow and oxblood coloured Helmar Tulips. One of our personal favourite daffodil varieties we are carrying this year in bulk are the enormous Goblets! Don't forget, now is also the season to be buying your garlic! We are carrying 9 packaged varieties this year, so there are any flavours to test out next year. Be sure to come into the store this weekend to have your pick of the litter of bulbs, as they are selling fast!
2. Freshen Your Planters
After the summer, our stunning planters have began to fade and wilt. Freshen them up this weekend with a few new signature pieces! Perennials such as heuchera, euphorbia, and ferns come in 4" pots, making them great options for evergreen plants in containers throughout the winter. Our homegrown cyclamen bring a splash of colour to the mix or put in a few pansies or violas to complete the look. Other options to consider are the full and bright chrysanthemums, silvery green and purple ornamental cabbages & kales, or even throw in some of our still stunning BOGO summer bedding plants!
3. Plant Fall Vegetables
If you are anything like us, you are always looking to get the most out of your vegetable garden. This fall and winter be sure to plant some tasty cool weather crops. We have a great selection of mixed vegetable 6-packs which contain assortments of plants. For example our Super Foods Variety Pack contains 2 each of Black Magic Lacinato (Dinosaur) Kale, Redbor Kale, and Vates Blue Curled Kale. While another variety pack has everything you need for an heirloom salad! Other varieties in single packs include Red Delight Cabbage, Scarletbor Kale, and Great Lake Lettuces. Grown organically, you can trust that you are getting the very best!
If you have a great interest in fall gardening, be sure to register for our Fall Gardening Expo September 28th. We will be hosting 5 seminars and workshops throughout the day and your $10.00 (+ tax) registration fee grants you access to all of them.
